SCHOLARSHIPS

To receive Japanese Government Scholarship and other financial assistance, please complete the necessary application below by stipulated deadlines.

1. Japanese Government Scholarships

a. Receiving a scholarships

In order to receive Japanese Government Scholarships, you must sign or stamp at the

international student related section to establish enrollment confirmation in the university. The scholarship is deposited to your account at post office on the last day of every month. Once you have been admitted to TUAT, you should open a savings account as soon as possible.

If you are not in Japan from the first day to the last of the same month, or if your enrollment at TUAT cannot be confirmed, the scholarship for the month will not be deposited. Before you leave Japan, please make sure to inform the international affairs section.

b. Extension of the scholarship period

When the Japanese Government Scholarship tenure expires, the student can apply for an extension of the tenure. You will be notified of the procedures for extension. If you need to extend it, you must follow the procedures.

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology will make decision on the extension. Given many extension application are filed every year, your application may not be accepted. The principles for the extension of the scholarship are as follows:

International students in graduate programs：The international student whose scholarship tenure will expire, but he/she is admitted to a graduate program from April.

International students in undergraduate programs：The international student who is in his/her last ear of the u dergraduate ourse, a d ho is ad itted Master’s ourse or the first ter of the do tor’s ourse.

c. Cancellation of the Scholarship

Your scholarship is cancelled in the following cases:

i. When any false description in your application documents is found, ii. When you are against the pledge to the Japanese government,

iii. When you are subject to disciplinary action or a judgment is made on your study results as unpromising,

iv. Whe our isa status ha ges fro Ryugaku to a other ategor , a d v. When you are absent from the university for a long-term.

d. Return travel allowance

When a Japanese Government Scholarship Student has completed the study program and returns to his/her country, a flight ticket (economy class) between Narita Airport and the nearest international airport to his/her residence.

Notice will be made to all students completing their courses. If you wish to receive a return travel allowance, please follow the procedures. The application should be made in July for students completing the course in September for those completing in March. After the

In the following cases, students cannot apply for the return travel allowance:

i. Returning home for personal reasons during the scholarship period,

ii. Continuing to stay in Japan as a self-supporting international student after the expiration of the scholarship,

iii. Obtaining travel allowance from public organizations other than MEXT, and iv. Not returning to their home country within the scholarship period.

2. Self-supporting International Students

a. Acceptance as a Monbukagakusho Scholarship Student

Every year, a number of self-supporting students are accepted into the Japanese Government Scholarship.

No acceptance scheduled for 2017. Acceptance for 2018 is still not determined.

students who are recognized as they need financial support to continue student life If the aforementioned student receives other scholarship from private or publish organization exceeding the specified amount, he/she is not qualified to apply for the scholarship.

Application period：April

Monthly subsidy： JPY 48,000 for graduate student, JPY 48,000 for undergraduate student (2016)

Qualification：Undergraduate → registered undergraduate students for the faculty; graduate or equivalent → registered for the graduate course, or research students or other students with studies equivalent to the graduate course or with educational background exceeding a basic university degree.

Subsidy period：1 year (from April to March) c. Tuition Exemption

If a student has difficulties in paying tuition due to financial reasons and has an excellent

academic record, or in case of unavoidable circumstances including wind and flood damages, the student may be exempted from all or a half of the tuitions for the current term, after due consideration of the application. The application procedure will be announced on the bulletin board of each faculty and other locations. Potential applicants must submit an application form and other required documents by the deadline.
